The Astros being underdogs on Tuesday is almost an instant locked in play on Houston for a number of reasons. First off, the Astros already have a victory in their visit to the North with a 3-1 win in Toronto on Monday afternoon and they were also the hottest team in baseball in June with a 17-8 record. July is off to the same start, and the Blue Jays have now scored 2 total runs in their last two games.

Before Betting on July 2 Astros vs Blue Jays

The Astros are red hot winning 10 of their last 11 games while the Blue Jays are on the opposite trajectory while dropping 10 of their last 13. Not only is Toronto in a bit of a rut, they are also likely short handed with Vlad Guerrero, Jr. being scratched for Monday’s series opener after being struck in the hand in Sunday’s 8-1 loss to the Yankees. Guerrero, Jr. just earned player of the week honors so that’s potentially a big loss for Toronto.

The reason you’ll see Toronto as the slight favorite on some offshore betting sites is because Jose Berrios (7-6, 3.38 ERA) gets the start for the ‘Jays. Berrios was dominant early with a 1.19 ERA in his first six starts of the season, but has also allowed 4+ ER in two of his last three most recent outings. Berrios does have a 2.39 ERA at home compared to 4.38 on the road and has held Houston’s lineup to less than a .250 combined average in his career.

Spencer Arrighetti (4-6, 5.68 ERA) goes for Houston on Tuesday trying to follow up 6.0 IP of 2-hit ball from Hunter Brown in the series opener. The right-hander is coming off his best outing of the season when he completed 7.0 IP of shutout ball with 10 K’s – but that was also against the last place Rockies.

July 2 Astros vs Blue Jays Prediction & Pick

If you can get the Astros at plus money right now, you kind of just lock it in. Toronto does have the pitching advantage on paper, but Houston has tallied 7+ runs in four of their last seven so that’s a dialed in offense that trumps whoever is on the mound.

Pick: Astros ML
