The Rangers seem to have put a six game losing streak behind them, winning consecutive games while outscoring their opponents 18-2 in the process. That includes Tuesday’s 7-0 series opening win over the Padres as San Diego has now dropped two in a row after winning their previous five. Offshore oddsmakers like Texas again as the two clubs continue their interleague series in Arlington.
Before Betting on July 3 Padres vs Rangers
San Diego had an off day Monday but their offense did not look refreshed at all on Tuesday, managing just 2 hits in the 7-0 loss. It’s a bit early for concern, but the Padres bats were also stagnant in Sunday’s 4-1 loss in Boston. The reason we can’t turn our backs on the San Diego offense just yet is because they scored at least 7 runs in each outing of their five game win streak last week.
Texas knocked San Diego ace Dylan Cease out after just 3.2 IP in the opener, scoring 6 runs helped in a large part by a couple of Nathaniel Lowe home runs. The Rangers will try to repeat that production in game two against Adam Mazur (1-2, 7.25 ERA) who is making just his sixth career start in this matchup. Mazur has had some ups and downs as you’d expect from a rookie, giving up 1 ER over 6.0 IP in his MLB debut against the Angels but following that up with 8 ER over just 3.0 IP against the Diamondbacks.
Jon Gray (3-4, 3.77 ERA) starts for the Rangers as they look for their third straight win. The 32-year-old has been rocked in two of his last three outings, giving up 9 ER to the Mets on June 17 and getting pelted for 8 last Thursday against Baltimore. In Gray’s three other appearances in June, he allowed a total of 1 ER so it’s really Russian Roulette betting on this guy.

July 3 Padres vs Rangers Prediction & Pick
The San Diego offense hasn’t done much their last two games, but that could easily change on Wednesday against a pitcher in Gray who you never know what you’re going to get. The Padres at plus money – even with a rookie pitcher on the bump – offers the better value.
Pick: Padres ML
