Kansas City may be sitting in third place in the AL Central, but they are actually the second best home team in baseball (behind the Phillies) with a 30-17 mark at Kauffman Stadium. That’s a great stat for Royals fans, but visiting Tampa Bay doesn’t care as they took the series opener 5-1 on Tuesday night. Offshore oddsmakers have the line very close again for Wednesday’s game two matchup, is this where KC evens up the series?

Before Betting on July 3 Rays vs Royals

To be fair the Royals were maybe due for a letdown game on Tuesday after taking three of four over the weekend from the first place Guardians, who are 23 games over .500 on the season. An off day on Monday and a 2-1/2 hour rain delay didn’t help with KC’s momentum – but you also have to admit that Tampa Bay was in the same situation and scored 4 runs after the pause for Mother Nature. Richie Palacios led the Rays offense with a 3-4 night while Brandon Lowe hit his 6th home run of the year.

Tampa Bay tries to clinch a series win behind starter Ryan Pepiot (4-4, 4.40 ERA) who is coming off a gem at home against Seattle where he pitched into the 6th and allowed just 1 hit even though the Mariners ended up getting a 5-2 win. Pepiot does have a 4.93 ERA on the road compared to 3.46 at home, but the Royals offense has also been held to 2 runs or less in three of their last five.

Kansas City aims to even up the series behind Michael Wacha (4-6, 3.91 ERA) on Wednesday. Wacha took a liner off his foot at the end of May, but had a 1.74 ERA in two starts since returning.

July 3 Rays vs Royals Prediction & Pick

This looks like a good spot for the Royals to even up the series. They are a great team at home and Wacha has been dialed in since his stint on the IL.
