Chicago’s loss on Friday combined with Pittsburgh’s 5-2 series opening win over the Rockies has the Pirates out of the basement in the NL Central. The Bucs hope to keep that momentum going as huge favorites against Colorado, who has the second worst record in the National League.

Before Betting on June 15 Pirates vs Rockies

The Pirates snapped a two game losing streak on Friday by taking advantage of the Colorado atmosphere in getting home runs from Andrew McCutchen, Brian Reynolds, and Jack Suwinski. Even with the power surge, game one stayed well under the betting total of 10.5 thanks to a pitching gem for the Pirates – even in a bullpen game with Carmen Mlodzinksi going just 1.0 IP in the opener role.

The Pirates burned up their bullpen pretty good on Friday using five relievers, so they hope to get a long appearance from Jared Jones (4-5, 3.27 ERA). The right-hander has a 1.64 ERA in two June starts, and also threw 7.0 IP of 1-hit ball against the Rockies in a 1-0 win on May 4th. That game was back in Pittsburgh, so Saturday’s appearance will be the first one at Coors Field for the rookie Jones.

Rockies starter Ryan Feltner pitched into the 7th in Friday night’s loss, but he did surrender all three Pirates HRs which will happen in Denver. Colorado turns to Ty Blach (2-4, 4.84 ERA) to try and even up the series in game two. The Southpaw has been tagged for 4 runs in each of his two starts this month, but has surprisingly pitched better at hitter-friendly Coors Field (3.86 ERA) than he has on the road (7.50 ERA).

June 15 Pirates vs Rockies Prediction & Pick

The Rockies are just 3-10 this month so taking them as huge underdogs is a risk. Jones has pitched well recently for the Pirates, while Blach has surrendered 8 ER over his last 10.0 IP. Pittsburgh found their power on Friday, something which should continue in game two.

Pick: Pirates -1.5
