There’s a heat wave sweeping through the United States in mid-June and it may be being caused by the red hot play of the Mets. New York (33-37) is on a five game win streak and have come out on top in 11 of their last 15 after suffering an atrocious 9-19 record in May. On the flip side of trending upwards is the Rangers (33-38) who were swept in Seattle this weekend while scoring just seven total runs over three games.
Before Betting on June 17 Mets vs Rangers
The interesting thing about the Mets turning things around as they set their sights on a .500 record is that they were doing it basically in spite of Pete Alonso. The slugger, in a contract year, had a stretch of 2-23 from June 9 to June 15 but got back in the HR column on Sunday while knocking in 5 runs. If he can get going this New York team could be dangerous.
The Mets try to make it six wins in a row behind Monday’s starter David Peterson (2-0, 4.32 ERA). The 6’6″, 240 pound left-hander makes just his fourth start of 2024 after off-season labrum surgery, but he’s allowed 2 ER or less in two of his three previous outings. Marcus Semien is 2-3 against Peterson with a HR, but Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia are a combined 0-6 as the Rangers have a .176 team average vs. the New York starter.
Jon Gray (2-2, 2.17 ERA) will try to reverse his past struggles against the Mets as he has a career 1-3, 7.41 ERA against the team from the Big Apple. Like Peterson, Gray has suffered through some injury issues (groin) this season but has a 1.69 ERA in June since returning from the IL even though he has pitched a total of just 5.1 IP.

June 17 Mets vs Rangers Prediction & Pick
The Rangers are struggling a bit but they did take two of three from the Dodgers in Los Angeles last week. That being said, the Mets are hot and scored more runs on Sunday (11) than the Rangers have in their previous four games.
