The Cubs are trending towards being sellers as the trade deadline approaches in a little over a month. Chicago has the 8th highest payroll in MLB but have sunk to the cellar in the NL Central even after signing manager Craig Counsell to a $40 million contract in the offseason. San Francisco has taken the first two games of the series with the Cubs this week, and could be headed towards a 4-game sweep the way Chicago is playing as of late.

Before Betting on June 26 Cubs vs Giants

It’s been hard for fans in the Windy City to stay up and watch the Cubs on the West Coast this week, but with the way the Chicago bullpen has performed this year you really have to watch all 9 innings. The Cubs have blown 17 saves this season including giving up a 4-0 lead to the Giants on Monday, that’s the second most in baseball behind only their neighbors on the South Side (21).

It really doesn’t matter who starts for Chicago nowadays because their relievers are so inept, but Hayden Wesneski will give it a shot on Wednesday. Wesneski has appeared mostly as a reliever this season, and has given up 6 ER in 8.1 IP this month which is not great.

The Giants had a bullpen day on Tuesday and still held the Cubs to just one run on four hits. That bodes well for Hayden Birdsong in game three of the series as he makes his MLB debut. Birdsong was 4-2 with a 2.05 ERA in Double A this season and had 14 K’s in 9 innings in two Triple A starts.

June 26 Cubs vs Giants Prediction & Pick

Even though the Giants are starting a rookie pitcher in his MLB debut on Wednesday, they still have the value against a Cubs offense that has been held to 2 runs or less in three of their last five. Even if Chicago does score, their bullpen is still a liability especially against Wesneski making his first start since early May.

Pick: Giants -1.5
