Juventus agreed with its players to cut the wages during the COVID-19 pandemic and save a substantial amount of money in its budget.

Players to Leave Juve €90 Million

The latest news from Italy is that the Old Lady’s management managed to strike a deal with the players and coach Maurizio Sarri, which will save the team more than €90 million. The club shared the news this Saturday.

It is arguably the biggest amount among all the top European clubs, and will no doubt create an avalanche of the same actions throughout the continent. When all adds up, this is the sum that presents Juventus’ four-month bill for wages. It is expected for Cristiano Ronaldo to give up around €3.8 alone.

“The economic and financial effects of the understanding reached are positive for about €90m ($100.26m) for the 2019-2020 financial year,” Juventus said in a statement on Saturday.

On behalf of the players, the negotiations were led by Giorgio Chiellini.

Following the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve witnessed the suspensions of all the top football competitions in Europe. Serie A was among them also, and judging by the way things develop in Italy, we won’t see players back on the pitch anytime soon.

There were some attempts of certain teams to at least start training, however all that was immediately shut down, due to a very rigid reaction of the public. In times where there are hundreds of deaths each day, such an activity would be distasteful.

Juve’s executives added that if the championship continues in the meantime, they would be happy to bring back the wages to the normal level. Apart from Juve, Barca and Atletico Madrid also decided the cut payments, and save the team’s money in these hard times.

Italy and Turin Under Huge Pressure

Juventus was one of the first teams who openly admitted to having players with COVID-19. Daniele Rugani was the first among them, and he even later infected his girlfriend. The same happened with the Argentinian forward Paulo Dybala. The third player who has Coronavirus is Blaise Matuidi.

Fortunately, all of them are ok and in isolation, with the note that Rugani’s girlfriend, Michela Persico, is in the fourth month of pregnancy. The latest news is suggesting that both of them are recovering well and that they should be cleared of illness pretty soon.

In the meantime, the situation in Italy is still critical. Turin and Milan are the two cities under the biggest pressure and are affected the most according to the government analyses. The latest stats are saying that almost 900 people died over the previous 24 hours and that although it seemed for one moment that the pandemic was slowing down, it struck back again.

Italy has more than 92 thousand people infected, and nearly 6 thousand were detected this Friday. Along with Spain, these two countries are the most vulnerable right now, with both of them facing a collapse of the healthcare system. The government measures are not working correctly, mostly due to the human factor and irresponsible individuals.

It is why we underline once again that it is very important to follow all the guidelines provided by the authorities. Stay safe!
