The excitement is building ahead of the opening Triple Crown of the season in the United States, with Churchill Downs hosting the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. A field of horses aged three will compete over 1 ¼ miles. The latest Kentucky Derby prop offshore odds, and our picks can be found here.

Forte vs The Field

SelectionOdds
Forte+325
The Field-395

Forte is the standout star in the Derby field this year, having already landed victories in the G3 Fountain of Youth and G1 Florida Derby. He is the correct favorite for the race, and he could potentially be the first Triple Crown winner since Justify. We mentioned earlier in the week that we are very high on his chances this weekend, and +325 offers yet more value on the standout selection.

Practical Move vs Derma Sotogake

HorseOdds
Practical Move-140
Derma Sotogake+120

There are a number of head-to-head markets available in the Kentucky Derby prop section at BetOnline, but this is certainly the one that stands out. Practical Move has achieved a 100 Beyer speed figure this year, and Derma Sotogake could be the best Japanese entry that we have seen in Derby history. The latter would be our selection in this market, as we expect him to run a huge race from stall 17.

Angel of Empire vs Kingsbarns

HorseOdds
Angel of Empire-200
Kingsbarns+175

Both Brad Cox and Todd Pletcher hold strong hands for the Derby this weekend, and Angel of Empire and Kingsbarns could be two standout contenders. The former was an excellent winner of the G1 Arkansas Derby on his previous start, while the latter has progressed incredibly quickly this year by winning the G2 Louisiana Derby on his first stakes start. Kingsbarns could be a star, but the occasion could get the better of him this weekend, which means the preference would be Angel of Empire.

Verifying vs Two Phil’s

HorseOdds
Verifying-135
Two Phil’s+115

We flagged up Two Phil’s as our outsider in the field after his win in the Jeff Ruby Steaks. But, he will likely go off at anything other than an outsider price. He boasts the highest Beyer speed figure of any runner in the race this weekend, and his sire, Hard Spun, was previously second in the Kentucky Derby. Verifying is bred for this trip, as he is by previous Derby winner Justify. However, we will be siding with Two Phil’s this weekend.
