Forte is the leading contender for Derby success on Saturday, while Wet Paint is the top-choice in the betting for the Kentucky Oaks on Friday. It would be unlikely both favorites would land success in their respective races, but +1200 is a very generous price. However, we don’t think both runners will land success this weekend.
Brad Cox To Train The 2023 Kentucky Derby Winner?
Brad Cox has an incredibly strong hand for the Derby this year, and this market could be an attractive option to take Hit Show, Verifying, Jace’s Road, and Angel of Empire. We are keen on the latter’s chances, but the remainder will likely be battling for a place. But, we don’t think Brad Cox will train the winner of the Kentucky Derby this year.
Gate To Wire Winner
There have only been 23 wire-to-wire winners of the Kentucky Derby since 1875, with the most recent to achieve that feat being Authentic in 2020. Given the late speed in the race this year, we don’t expect a wire-to-wire winner of the race, as there are too many quality closers.
Will Secretariat’s Time Be Beaten
The legendary Secretariat set the quickest finishing time in Kentucky Derby history back in 1973, and few winners have got near his 1:59 record. There isn’t likely to be a lightning-quick pace to the race this weekend, and we would be stunned if a runner finishes in under two minutes, let alone gets close to the record time.
