UFC Fight Night 165 in Busan, South Korea, brought a superb show for the audience all around the world. The favorite of the home fans, Chan Sung Jung, or the Korean Zombie as everybody knows him, demolished Frankie Edgar, once a UFC champion. The bout was ended already in the first round after Jung’s ferocious domination.
Edgar Demolished and Humiliated
The Korean Zombie landed 79 strikes in just 3 minutes and 18 seconds as the fight lasted. On the other side, Edgar had only had 9. This could tell you a lot about the way this bout developed. Right from the start, Jung imposed the rhythm and began pounding the rival like it was his last fight. In no time, he would bring him down, after a short left hook, trying to choke the American. Somehow, Edgar got away, but he had the opponent on his back now, and was in an equally bad position.
Jung was firing from all angles, attempting to crack Edgar’s shaky defense. The referee in the ring demanded from the American to give his best and escape from this death grip, or he would stop the fight.
After some time, he managed to stand up, but then again, the Korean Zombi practically rolled over him. At first, Jung struck with an uppercut and following that sent Edgar to the ground with a left hook. Ground and pound finished this event, with the referee stepping in and saving the guest in this event from an absolute demolition.
Edgar’s face was swollen and brutalized, with the former lightweight champion, who had three title defense being beaten like never before in his career.
On the other side of the octagon, Jung didn’t even sweat, earning one of his most dominant wins ever. He would also receive the bonus for the Performance of the Night, his eight in ten events organized by UFC or WEC.
Next Stop – Volkanovski or Holloway
The Korean Zombie’s next opponent should be either Max Holloway or Alexander Volkanovski. Jung told during the post-match interview that he wants to fight Volkanovski and that he deserved the shot at the title. But that would be hard to organize now, due to Volkanovski’s hand injury, and prospects for seeing this clash are minimal. Even if the new champion was healthy, his primary choice would be Holloway.
When mentioning Holloway, it is much more realistic to see the contest between the two, and that the winner of this clash goes against Volkanovski later. That would no doubt be the biggest match of Jung’s career.
In the co-main event, Volkan Oezdemir defeated Aleksandar Rakic via split decision in a match that could really go either way. Many are saying that actually, Rakic won this fight and disagreed with the judges’ scorecards. Their scores were 28-29, 29-28, 29-28 in Oezdemir’s favor.
The next event is UFC 246 and Conor McGregor’s big comeback. The Notorious will face Donald Cowboys Cerrone on January 18, in Paradise, Nevada. It is expected to be one of the biggest pay-per-view events ever.
