- The LA Rams won the Super Bowl LVI.
- They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20, following a thrilling battle.
- Cooper Kupp won the Super Bowl MVP honors, but the defensive team was the difference-maker on the field.
After 23 years of waiting, the Rams have brought back Vince Lombardi to their trophy room. Only this time, they are located in LA, not St. Louis. After a very interesting game at the SoFi Stadium, Sean McVay’s guys ended up on the winning side, making him the youngest ever head coach to win the NFL title.
Defense Steps Up When Needed
Even though the OPOY, Cooper Kupp, delivered the final blow to the Bengals, and scored two TDs in this game, the credit for winning the Super Bowl needs to be given to the Rams’ defensive unit. They were fabulous tonight, showing up in all the critical moments.
The Rams opened the game furiously, with Odell Beckham Jr. leading the way and tearing up the Bengals’ defense. However, after his injury, a 13-3 lead LA had quickly disappeared. The Bengals had the swing, and they began punishing Matt Stafford.
At that moment, Aaron Donald, Von Miller, Leonard Floyd and the rest began showing up. They sacked Joe Burrow seven times in this game, the first two had a pair of sacks both. We are free to say that Donald and Miller single-handily shifted the momentum back to the Rams’ side.
Also, they froze Burrow on the Bengals’ final possession, and Donald sacked the young QB to seal the game on Cinci’s fourth down.
Kupp had 92 receiving yards for two TDs, OBJ 52 for one. Beckham Jr. left the game before halftime, due to a knee injury and didn’t come back. Stafford ended the Super Bowl with 283 passing yards for three TDs and two picks.
The Rams are the second team in NFL history to win the title at their own stadium after Tampa Bay did the same last year at Raymond James.
Bengals’ Third Super Bowl Defeat
After losing to the San Francisco 49ers twice in the Super Bowl, another NFC West team defeated the Bengals in the title game. We need to say that Cinci had everything in its hands here and that lack of experience saw them wasting a perfect opportunity for creating another upset.
The offensive line was another massive problem for the Bengals, who lost the battle at the scrimmage. Despite facing some of the best pass rushers in the last decade, Cincinnati’s O-line had to be better.
Joe Burrow was constantly beaten throughout the entire game, and he even picked up a knee injury. Eventually, he finished the contest with 263 passing yards for one TD. The other scoring toss was made by the running back Joe Mixon, who threw his pass to Tee Higgins. Higgins generated 100 receiving yards two TD catches, all that in four receptions.
Ja’Marr Chase fought like a lion, and he had 89 receiving yards on five receptions without any TDs. Simply, he couldn’t do any better against the Rams’ cornerbacks.
Tonight’s game marks the end of the 2021 NFL season. We are ahead of free agency, which could be very interesting.
