The Lakers were completely outrebounded in the opening meeting of the series, having just 30 boards, which was 17 fewer than the Nuggets’ had. Denver’s tactics were to empty the paint and leave Anthony Davis one-on-one with Jokic, who is stronger and bigger than him.
AD was excellent on the offensive side, dropping 40 buckets and 10 boards. LeBron missed a triple-double by one assist, having 26 points and 12 boards, while Austin Reaves again had a nice role with 23 buckets. Hachimura came off the bench to score 23 points.
Nikola Jokic was unstoppable, and the Joker was all over the floor. The Serb had 34 points, 21 boards, and 14 assists, 12-for-17 from the field. There was no way for the Lakers to slow him down, with the Joker scoring from all kinds of situations.
He had an excellent backup. Jamal Murray scored 31 points, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 21, and Bruce Brown again shined off the bench with 16 buckets. MPJ managed to record a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.
