The same as with the NBA MVP award, the race for the NBA Rookie of the Year is one-sided. Victor Wembanyama is the top favorite; some would say he has already won the trophy.
Wembanyama – Game Changer
The young Frenchman’s massive impact already in his first season can be measured only with the all-time greats of this sport. It’s maybe even more sounding than LeBron’s entrance to the NBA.
He is a two-way contributor and a very dominant figure on both ends of the floor. In little less than half an hour per game, he averaged 21.4 points and had 10.6 boards and 3.6 blocks. Plus, when we add that he slowly developed and his stats are even better following an All-Star break, you can get the picture of his quality.
Holmgren – OKC’s Missing Piece
If Chet Holmgreen had a team that subordinated him instead of the other way around, his numbers would definitely be much better, and the stat difference between the two would be far smaller.
Holmgren has 16.5 points per game, 7.9 boards, 2.3 blocks, and 53% FG. However, he plays in a system that already produces results. After all, following his draft, the Thunder took the top seed in the West. Opposite that, the Spurs are among the weakest units in the NBA. Right now, this won’t bring awards and silverware to Holmgren, but in the long run, it looks more promising than for Wembanyama.
Quiet Miller
Brandon Miller is arguably one of the biggest basketball talents in the NBA. And we don’t like him being on LaMelo Ball’s team because, in our opinion, this duo won’t work well together.
The 21-year-old had 17.3 points per game, with 4.3 boards and 37.3% for three. However, without LaMelo and with Vasilije Micic as the point guard, Charlotte’s results improved, and Miller’s overall stats too, with him delivering almost 20 points per night. Also, he doesn’t receive enough hype, and that’s because many see him as No.2 in the team.
