Leicester City vs Manchester City Preview

City Looking To Build Momentum

Manchester City, under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, will be looking to win back-to-back titles for the second time in five years this coming season. All the focus surrounding the reigning champions has come off the pitch over the last couple of months, as transfer speculation continues to mount surrounding City’s hunt for new arrivals. Two of England’s stars from the EUROs have been high on the agenda for City, with reports claiming that £100 million bids have been placed for Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

However, neither bid has been accepted to this point, and neither player have handed in an official transfer request. City’s preparation for the new season has been far from ideal, as many of the club’s stars are still missing, and they have played just two pre-season fixtures. There will be pressure on Guardiola this season, as the memories of their Champions League final defeat against Chelsea will still be very fresh in the memory.

Foxes Hoping For Big Season

The aim for Leicester City will remain unchanged from last season, as Brendan Rodgers will be looking to get his Leicester side into the Champions League places. Leicester were beaten to that place once again on the final week of last season, as they finished fifth for the second season in a row. Smart transfer business has already been done over the summer, but injuries could once again be the big factor that holds them back.

Injuries to key players at pivotal stages of the season last year was ultimately decisive, as the Foxes missed out on Champions League qualification. FA Cup final success over Chelsea at Wembley softened the blow for Rodgers and his team, but there is an expectation that Champions League qualification must be achieved this season to highlight the progression than the Foxes have made. Leicester have played three pre-season friendlies to this point, but they are yet to win. They were most recently held to a 3-3 draw by QPR.

Recent Meetings

Manchester City have won four of the previous five meetings against Leicester. The only win for the Foxes came in a 5-2 success at the Etihad last September. City bounced back from that defeat with a 2-0 win at the King Power in April.
