Li Jingliang and Tony Ferguson are the main protagonists of the UFC 279 co-main event.

Before Betting on Li Jingliang vs. Tony Ferguson

Jingliang has a split record in the past four fights, winning against Santiago Ponzinibbio and Muslim Salikhov while losing to Neil Magny and Khamzat Chimaev. Neither of these battles was close, with the Chinese knocking out his rivals, and on the other side, being dominated against Magny (unanimous decision) and suffering a first-round KO against Khamzat.

He is a solid striker with 19 wins and seven losses in his career. Ten of those victories were via KO, which is understandable once we see his fight style. Since coming to the UFC he didn’t have any submission triumphs, meaning that high-volume striking is his No.1 option.

Tony Ferguson is a legend of this sport, but lately, he hasn’t been very successful inside the octagon. Justin Gaethje broke his 12-win streak back in May 2020, and after that, one by one, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, and Michael Chandler beat El Cucuy.

This is going to be his first welterweight bout since 2011, and he had to go up because there was no future for him among the lightweights anymore. Ferguson has a longer reach than most of his rivals which has been an edge in the past, but not over the recent four events. He is a versatile and very aggressive striker, but the age did slow him down a bit.

Ferguson has luck here because Jingliang isn’t a good grappler, and also, because he has a four-inch reach edge. Despite him being an underdog, we are in for El Cucuy in this one.
