Even without Kylian Mbappe, an away win appears to be a standout Lille vs. Real Madrid prediction.

The reigning Champions League holders will be back in action on Wednesday, as Los Blancos chase a second straight win in the competition. Lille will be massive outsiders after stuttering domestically so far this term.

Mbappe Misses French Homecoming

Mbappe will be forced to sit out a French homecoming this weekend after sustaining a hamstring injury in Real Madrid’s win over Alaves last week.

Los Blancos will still be heavily fancied to get over the line against Lille to continue their 100% start to the UCL in 2024-25.

However, Real have suffered defeats on their last two trips to France without scoring. Both defeats were suffered in the capital against PSG.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have gone 14 without defeat in the competition, marking their best unbeaten sequence since going 15 without loss between April 2016 and May 2017.

Lille Protecting Fine European Home Record

Lille were ultimately well beaten on their return to the Champions League at Sporting Lisbon on matchday one. Worryingly, they will be without Angel Gomes for this clash after the England international was sent off in Portugal.

Lille’s home record in Europe deserves respect this week. They have won seven of their last eight at Stade Pierre-Mauroy since the start of last season.

However, at the top level of European competition, the French team has come up short. They have lost three on the bounce in the Champions League. This week, they will be looking to avoid suffering four straight defeats in the UCL for the first time since 2012-13.

Lille vs. Real Madrid Prediction: Los Blancos Easy Win

Even without Mbappe, Real have outclassed much better teams than Lille in the Champions League in recent seasons.

The French hosts have lost five of their last nine matches against Spanish rivals, while Real showed on matchday one that they have the ability to claim wins without being anywhere near their best level.

Pick:

  • Real Madrid to win.
