Chelsea lost at home to Bournemouth, while Leicester managed to win just one point against Norwich City, also at home. Liverpool, meanwhile, profited from that, after beating Watford in the opening game of the day, increasing its advantage over the rivals.
Chelsea Punished at Stamford
Dan Gosling beat Kepa in the 84th minute of the game, shocking the spectators at Stamford Bridge who were expecting to see their favourites win this contest. However, the Blues couldn’t breach the last obstacle on their path towards the win – Aaron Ramsdale. Bournemouth’s goalkeeper was superb, and Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and other Chelsea players didn’t stand a chance against this guy. In the moments when his team suffered great pressure by the hosts, Ramsdale was there to preserve his net and to boost the morale of his tired teammates.
Eventually, they scored, and it is pretty safe to say that he needs to be credited for this win, and not anyone else. Chelsea is now 20 points behind Liverpool, who defeated Watford today. The Reds have 49, while Blues sit at 29.
The leaders in the standings had a lot of troubles against the Hornets, although the final result might seem a little bit routine. It was 2-0 for the Reds, with Mo Salah delivering a brace. The Egyptian superstar scored in the 38th and the 90th minute.
Watford created a lot of problems for the European champs and wasn’t willing to go down without a fight. The guests even had some excellent chances, but in the end, they failed to execute.
On the other side, Liverpool seemed demotivated, without some particular competitive spirit. If they hadn’t scored in the first half, who knows what would be the end of this game. Klopp’s guys were looking frustrated and nervous in certain situations, yet they posted an important victory.
Leicester’s Superb Streak Ends
Brendan Rodgers’ guys didn’t succeed in intention to post their 10th win in a row. Surprisingly Norwich City left Kings Power stadium with one point, after holding on to a draw, 1-1. Just a few believed before this contest that the Canaries might avoid losing against the Foxes, but they achieved that.
Teemu Pukki beat Schmeichel in the 26th minute. However, Tim Krul sent the ball into his own net, 12 minutes later, not being able to restrain Vardy’s header.
To be honest, Norwich’s goalie didn’t react very well in this case, and this goal is on him.
But he fully redeemed until the end of the match, denying Leicester’s players several good chances to break the tie. Vardy and the guys left the field nervous and unhappy because they trail Liverpool 10 points.
In other games of today’s programme, West Ham defeated Southampton on the road, 0-1, and Mauricio Pellegrini saved his job. The experienced coach was ready to be fired, but this victory bought him time to correct all the problems in the locker room and on the field.
Sheffield United easily defeated Aston Villa and stayed on the fifth place in the standings.
