- Vintage Mo Salah stars
- Chelsea’s attacking blanks
- Diogo Jota’s injury woes
A Mo Salah masterclass sent Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League, as the Red’s beat Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield.
Chelsea started the game the brighter of the two, but Salah’s pace had defender Malo Gusto on the back foot, before Curtis Jones was adjust to be taken out by Levi Colwill. The Egyptian stepped up to the spot, and as usual, delivered Liverpool a lead.
Chelsea pushed back with Moises Caicedo slotting in Nicolas Jackson to level the game. Despite this, it was that man Salah, who would curse the London side again, as he sent a cross in for Curtis Jones to score the winner.
Liverpool move onto 21 points, with the best goal difference in the league, capitalising on Arsenal’s defeat on Saturday.

Liverpool Player Ratings
Salah and Jones steal the headlines
Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones stole the show, with both putting on stellar displays to send the Red’s top.
Elsewhere Virgil Van Dijk looked composed as ever, and Cody Gakpo caused problems throughout.
Caoimhin Kelleher – 6.5
Could potentially have done better with Chelsea’s goal but wasn’t troubled at any other time in the match.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6.5
A quiet night for the full-back, but handled everything thrown at him by Chelsea.
Ibrahim Konate – 6.5
Forever in Van Dijk’s shadow, but an all-round solid performance.
Virgil Van Dijk – 7.0
Didn’t have too much to deal with, but mopped up everything just as we’ve become used to him doing.
Andrew Robertson – 6.0
Potentially at fault for Jackson’s goal, but that being his only real mistake. Looked on the back foot at times, but controlled what he had to.
Curtis Jones – 9.0
Outstanding throughout, thoroughly deserved his goal after being denied a penalty.
Ryan Gravenberch – 6.5
Had to do more work than his midfield partner, but managed it well. Failed to get the ball forward on key occasions and looked a little laboured.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 6.5
A real quiet night for the Hungarian, just couldn’t get things going on the ball.
Mohamed Salah – 9.0
A vintage Salah performance, had Gusto on skates, creating chance after chance until eventually setting up Jones.
Cody Gakpo – 8.0
A constant threat with his intertwining runs and physical presence, caused James several problems whilst he was on the pitch.
Diogo Jota – 5.0
Took a knock from Adarabioyo early on and was subbed before half-time. A worry for Liverpool in the coming weeks.
Subs
- Darwin Nunez – 6.0
- Luis Diaz – 7.0
- Alexis Mac Allister – 6.5
- Joe Gomez – 5.5
Chelsea Player Ratings
Defensive woes and a Palmer off night
Robert Sanchez – 4.5
Sloppy with the ball, nearly gave away a second penalty and looked uncomfortable all game.
Malo Gusto – 4.5
The worst of Chelsea’s backline, controlled by Salah from the first minute. Was moved to his normal right-back position after Liverpool’s second.
Levi Colwill – 6.5
The better of the two centre-backs, but still struggled to contain the pace of Liverpool’s attacking quartet.
Tosin Adarabioyo – 6.0
Struggled to handle the forward runs of Gakpo and Salah.
Reece James – 5.5
Didn’t look fully fit and failed to make trademark runs forward. James also didn’t appear to cope with the physicality of Gakpo.

Romeo Lavia – 7.5
Chelsea’s best player in the first half, and arguably Chelsea’s best player until he was subbed.
Moises Caicedo – 7.0
Was outshone by his midfield counterpart in the first-half, but set up Jackson’s goal to get Chelsea back into the game. Did a lot of good going forward with the ball, but left a little to be desired defensively.
Jadon Sancho – 5.0
Failed to make too much of an impact in the first half. Was hooked during the break for Pedro Neto.
Cole Palmer – 6.0
Didn’t touch the ball till the later stages of the the game and seemed to rely on set pieces for his chance creation. Not the Palmer we’ve come to know.
Noni Madueke – 7.0
Was a real problem to Liverpool in the first half, but fell back into obscurity with a lack of service as the game went on.
Nicolas Jackson – 7.0
Had his trademark miss, but got his goal despite the lack of service.
Subs
- Pedro Neto – 6.5
- Enzo Fernandes – 6.0
- Renato Veiga – 5.5
