Liverpool’s defence of the FA Cup gets underway in the third round on Saturday, as the Reds welcome Wolves to Anfield in the late game. Both sides will be hoping for good runs in the domestic competition this season, as they have been underperformed in the Premier League.

Before Betting On Liverpool vs Wolves

This promises to be an interesting FA Cup third round tie between the Premier League sides. Interestingly, it’s Wolves that hold the advantage in the competition, as they have eliminated Liverpool in five of the seven previous FA Cup fixtures between the sides. Two of those victories have come since Jurgen Klopp has been Liverpool, including the most recent tie between the sides in the 2018-19 season. Liverpool’s last FA Cup win over Wolves came way back in February 1952.

However, the Reds still boast a dominant overall record against the team from the Black Country, as Wolves have lost eleven of their previous 13 matches against Liverpool. The Reds were crowned winners of the FA Cup last season, as they beat Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shootout at Wembley. However, Liverpool have crashed out in four of their seven campaigns as holders of the illustrious honour, including most recently in the 2006-07 season.

Liverpool will still be looking for a response when they take to the field in the FA Cup, as they were humbled in their previous Premier League fixture by Brentford. However, being back at Anfield will certainly help their chances, as their best performances this term have come on Merseyside.

Meanwhile, the FA Cup could serve as a welcome distraction for Wolves, as they have been poor throughout the season to this point, and currently sit in the bottom three of the Premier League standings.

This is likely to be a tight FA Cup tie between the two sides, and cases can be made for both. The Wolves record against the Reds in the FA Cup is very interesting, but it remains very difficult to see past the home side edging through to the fourth round.
