Before Betting On Lockinge Stakes
One of the big turf races on the international schedule this weekend will be run at Newbury, as the G1 Lockinge has attracted a star-studded field to compete over a mile. This race has been staged since 1958, and it is seen as a stepping stone for the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, no horse has completed the double since the legendary Frankel in 2012.
Inspiral will be looking to follow in her sire’s footsteps by winning the race this year, with the John & Thady Gosden runner being the ride of Kieran Shoemark. She ended her 2022 campaign in excellent fashion on U.S. soil, narrowly getting up to land the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. However, she is accomplished over this distance, claiming victory over Big Rock in the G1 Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois last August.
Big Rock will once again be the leading contender on his first start for trainer Maurizio Guarnieri. He was an excellent winner of the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over a mile at Ascot on his final start last year, and holds very solid form lines behind Arc victory Ace Impact.
Charyn could prove to be an interesting alternative this weekend after already winning on both starts this season. His recent victory over a mile at Sandown in the G2 Bet365 Mile was very impressive, and gives him a form edge over Poker Face ahead of this showdown.
