Heavyweights collide in the Premier League this weekend in what could already be a pivotal fixture in the race for the title. City have made a perfect start to the new campaign, winning each of their opening four matches.

Pep Guardiola’s side have already netted eleven times this term, with Erling Haaland hitting the ground running in 2024-25 after scoring nine in four Premier League matches.

City’s dominant start was maintained with a 2-1 home success against Brentford last weekend, with the Norwegian netting a brace.

The win marked the first time since November 2019 that the club have recorded back-to-back wins despite having conceded the opening goal.

Arsenal pushed City closest last term, and they will be expecting to go one better under Mikel Arteta this season.

The Gunners sit two points behind City at this stage after winning three of their opening four matches. They quickly put a setback against Brighton behind them to land a victory at Tottenham in the North London derby last Sunday.

It was a sixth straight win on the road for the Gunners, marking the first time since September 2013 that they have achieved that feat.

However, Arsenal haven’t beat City away from home in the league since January 2015. Last season’s draw was the first point that they have taken at the Etihad since May 2016.

It seems unfair to suggest that this is already a must-win match for Arsenal, but defeat at the Etihad would give the Gunners a five-point gap to make up on their rivals.

Once again, Martin Odegaard will be missing for the Gunners, and that could prove costly. For that reason, it appears hard to bet against City winning a fifth straight match to start the new season.
