The traditional curtain raiser in English soccer takes place this weekend, as Manchester City and Arsenal lock horns in the 2023 Community Shield. Both sides will be looking to get their hands on the first piece of silverware on offer this term, but which team will come out on top at Wembley Stadium?

Before Betting On Man City vs Arsenal

A thrilling Community Shield is set to kick off the 2023-24 domestic season in England. Man City will be competing in their third consecutive edition of the tournament, but they will be looking to end a two-year losing run. A victory for Pep Guardiola’s side will give them a seventh success, but they haven’t won the Community Shield since beating Liverpool on penalties in 2019.

It has been a challenging off-season for the reigning English and European champions, as they have seen a number of top stars leave the club. However, only Matteo Kovacic has been brought in to this point by the club. City looked light in their final warm-up match before the Community Shield, as they were edged out in Asia by Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

A big season is expected for Arsenal this term, as they have been the highest spenders throughout the summer. The Gunners paid a British-record to bring Declan Rice to the club, while additional quality has also been snapped up in the form of Kai Havertz. Arsenal hasn’t competed in the Community Shield since beating Liverpool on penalties in 2020. That was their 16th success in the competition, and victory this weekend would move them up to second on the all-time list.

The Gunners played their final pre-season match before the Community Shield late last week, as they recorded a comfortable 5-3 win over Barcelona in the United States. Leandro Trossard scored twice in that success, while further efforts were added by Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Fabio Vieira.
