The first Manchester Derby of the 2023-24 season takes place on Sunday, as United welcome City to Old Trafford. It has been a challenging start to the season for the hosts, and they will be the huge outsiders in the betting to land victory against their local rivals this weekend.

Before Betting On Man United vs Man City

The Manchester Derby is often a fixture that leaps up from the page, and that is no different this weekend. City come into the match sitting second in the league standings, as they bounced back to winning ways against Brighton last weekend after losing three domestic fixtures on the bounce. United have won each of their previous two, and a third straight victory could see them close to within two points of the Champions League spots.

United will take confidence from the fact that they recorded a 2-1 victory in this exact fixture last season. However, they haven’t won back to back matches against their local rivals at Old Trafford since winning three on the bounce between 2008 and 2011. Interestingly, City have won more away matches against United than any other side in Premier League history, with seven of their eighth wins coming in their previous 12 visits.

City shades the overall record against the Red Devils, as they have won 13 of the last 24 league meetings between the sides, with the Red Devils landing eight victories over the same period. Interestingly, City has won five of the eight derbies that have been played directly after a round of Champions League fixtures.

United will need a massive performance if they are to claim maximum points this weekend, but their confidence would have been boosted following a nervy 1-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League in midweek, with Harry Maguire netting the winner.

United will need to put in their best performance of the season this weekend if they are to land maximum points. However, it could be challenging to overlook City landing maximum points against a Red Devils backline that has looked vulnerable throughout the season.
