Monday night’s NHL action was captivating, and there were goals everywhere you looked. The New York Islanders managed to get back to winning ways, while there were captivating games taking place in Montreal, Los Angeles and Toronto. But, which teams were able to get the wins last night?
Islanders End Skid
The New York Islanders went into their match with the Colorado Avalanche looking to end a skid of two games. They had previously lost to the New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In those two matches, they were only able to score once, and they conceded five times. They looked like a team short on confidence last night, but they were eventually able to get the win that they craved.
It was a nervy opening two periods in New York, which was void of any real quality from either side. However, overtime was taken out of the question with just minutes left to play as Anders Lee was able to beat the impressive Pavel Francouz, who had managed to save 33 shots up to that point. Semyon Varlamov was able to keep a shutout, as he made 32 saves for the Islanders in the win.
Maple Leafs Winning Run Ended
The Toronto Maple Leafs would have been high on confidence as they went into their game win the Edmonton Oilers. The Leafs had won their last three before the Oilers came to town. Edmonton started and ended quicker than the Leafs as they cemented a 6-4 victory, but the action was thrilling.
Pierre Engvall, Frederik Gauthier, Auston Matthews and Jason Spezza got the goals for the Leafs, while the home side also got 19 saves from Frederik Andersen. However, he was pulled after conceding three goals, but Michael Hutchinson also conceded three. Connor McDavid, Alex Chiasson, Leon Draisaitl, Oscar Klefbom, Darnell Nurse and Kailer Yamamoto got the goals for the Oilers. They also got 36 saves from Mike Smith in the win.
Wins for Blue Jackets and Jets
The Columbus Blue Jackets came back from a goal down after the opening frame to see off the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. The Blue Jackets scored twice in the second and third periods, while the Kings could only reply with two goals of their own in the defeat. Alex Iafallo and Trevor Lewis got the goals for the Kings, while they also got 23 saves from Jonathan Quick.
Gustav Nyquist, Nathan Gerbe, Scott Harrington and Kevin Stenlund got the goals for the Blue Jackets as they made it three wins in four. Elvis Merzlikins made as astonishing 37 saves in the win for Columbus.
There was also a win for the Winnipeg Jets as they saw off the Montreal Canadiens to claim a 3-2 win. Ben Chiarot scored the two goals for the Canadiens. However, Andrew Copp, Nikolaj Ehlers and John Morrissey ensured that the Jets got the win. The victory ended a run of two defeats. The Jets face the Maple Leafs next on Wednesday night.
