The Mariners are having a nice week vs. Houston, taking home a 3-2 victory on Monday and following that up with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday. Seattle has two more chances in this 4-game set to increase their lead in the AL West and push the Astros back further from the 5.5 GB they currently sit as the third place team in the division.

The Astros offense has been held to 2 runs or less in four of their last six so this is a team that is starting to fizzle out – although it is early in the 2024 season. The Mariners meanwhile have put a four game losing streak behind them and are back on track with three consecutive victories.
The Astros will try to stop their skid behind veteran Justin Verlander (3-2, 3.60 ERA) in what will be his 39th career start vs. Seattle. The 41-year-old can still sling it, coming off 6.0 IP of 1ER ball at the A’s on Friday and allowing 2 hits in 7.0 ER in his previous road start at Detroit. Verlander has a 3.18 ERA on the road this season compared to 4.63 at Minute Maid Park.
The Mariners only have two more hits than Houston so far in this series, but that’s been good enough for two wins. J.P. Crawford, Ty France, and Julio Rodriguez have all hit better than .285 in their careers vs Verlander in 20+ ABs so there’s a chance for a little more offense from Seattle on Wednesday. Either way, Seattle starter George Kirby (4-5, 4.33 ERA) will try to continue what has been a successful pitching series for the staff, but he’s allowed 4+ ER in three of his last four starts.
