Revenge is not complete until they win the series, but Boston is off to a good start with a 5-1 win over the Panthers on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Florida famously eliminated the Bruins in the first round last season even after Boston set single season NHL records for wins and points.

This matchup seems personal for Boston, who also took all four meetings with the Panthers during the regular season. It wouldn’t have been a surprise if the Bruins came out flat in Game 1 either, considering they just wrapped up a grueling 7-game series with Toronto two nights prior with a 2-1 OT win, but this is a team that has some momentum.
Boston can easily go up 2-0 in the series on Wednesday just because of the way Jeremy Swayman is playing in net. Even though Auston Matthews (illness) missed two games in the series, Toronto still has an incredibly talented offense that features the likes of John Tavares and Mitch Marner and Swayman held the Leafs to two goals or less in all seven games of the series.
Florida needs to do something to regain their momentum, and perhaps finishing off Tampa Bay in 5 games in the first round was the worst thing they did. The Panthers had a full week off between their first round and second round series’ so now that they’re back in more of a normal rhythm we may see better things in Game 2.
