Check out our Memphis vs West Virginia bowl prediction and preview article as the two teams get ready to fight it out in the Frisco Bowl. Memphis is hot, and at 10-2, they are trying to win their final game to secure a finish in the top 25 rankings. West Virginia has fired and hired a new head coach since the regular season finale and is trying to build some momentum. These two teams can score the football, so expect a shootout in the Frisco Bowl.

Memphis Offense Scoring at Will

Memphis only has one notable opt-out for their bowl game, but it’s a big one. Leading rusher Mario Anderson Jr. has started his NFL Draft prep. He was elite this season, rushing for 1,292 yards and 17 touchdowns. Without him, Memphis will likely lean on their passing attack more, and that’s not a bad thing. Quarterback Seth Henigan threw for 3,208 yards and 23 touchdowns.

He has some great targets like Roc Taylor (834 yards) and Demeer Blankumsee (557 yards). Defensively, the Tigers have some strong players at each level. Defensive back Davion Ross leads the team with 11 passes defended and three interceptions. Up front, Chandler Martin leads the team in tackles with 94 and sacks with seven.

West Virginia Trying to Build New Identity

West Virginia fired head coach Neal Brown, and while Rich Rodriguez was hired to replace him, offensive coordinator Chad Scoot will be the interim head coach for the bowl game. Expect Rich Rod to be involved, though, and for West Virginia to try and open up the offense some. It may be difficult, though, with a lot of opt-outs for the bowl game.

Garrett Greene will play his last game for the Mountaineers and hopes to go out on a high. If West Virginia has any chance to pull off an upset, it would have to be on the shoulders of a huge game from Greene. He is capable, like when he threw for 295 yards and rushed for 87 in West Virginia’s win over Kansas early this season.

Memphis vs West Virginia Prediction: Memphis Continuity Too Much to Overcome

Expect West Virginia to keep it close for a half, with several big plays from Garrett Greene. After halftime, though, it will be too much for the Mountaineers to keep up with Memphis. West Virginia has 10+ opt-outs that will hurt their depth, and the Tiger’s offense has scored 30+ in five of their last six games.
