The Olympic Games will get underway in France at the end of July. The tournament this year gets underway just after the EUROs have ended, meaning that there could be extra emphasis on giving younger players a chance at the Men’s soccer competition.

Before Betting On Men’s Olympic Soccer

Soccer has been competed at the Olympic Games in every edition since 1896. However, unlike other major tournaments on the soccer schedule, nations are restricted to naming players in the squad that are under the age of 23, with just three exemptions given to overage players.

Surprisingly, Hungary have been the most successful nation in the history of the tournament, winning three golds and a silver. However, you have to go back to 1968 for their last win. Brazil has been the most dominant team in recent editions after winning the gold medals in 2016 and 2020.

France will be hopeful of making a case to win the tournament this summer, as they will have home field advantage. They could face an early test in the group stage after being drawn alongside the United States. Argentina could also add Olympic gold to the World Cup honor that they won in 2022.

Spain should also rank among the likely contenders this summer after enjoying a fine run to the final of the EURO U21 Championships last year before losing against England. However, whether the main crop of that squad will represent the team just after the EUROs in Germany remains unclear.

It appears as though the top three in the betting will be the leading contenders this summer. However, France could be very challenging to overlook at their home tournament after saving an excellent crop of young stars for the Olympics.
