The CONCACAF Gold Cup continues on Sunday, as one of the leading contenders for glory kick off their campaign. Mexico will be looking to avenge their defeat in the 2021 final, and register a record-extending success in the tournament. They kick off their campaign against Honduras in Houston.

Before Betting On Mexico vs Honduras

It has been a challenging seven days or so for the Mexican national team, as they suffered a semi-final loss in the Nations League against the United States. However, they will be hoping to get back on track when the Gold Cup gets underway this weekend, as they will be among the leading contenders to land victory in the tournament this year.

Mexico at least responded to their defeat against the United States in the match for third, as they recorded a 1-0 success over Panama in Las Vegas. However, that was only their second win in four international matches, and their defensive record will need to improve this summer. The team have allowed five goals across their last three internationals, and a statement performance will be required to highlight their chances of victory this summer on Sunday.

Honduras will likely be in a battle with Qatar for the second qualifying spot in Group B, but they could face a tricky assignment as the invited nation previously achieved a run to the semi-final stage just two years ago. Honduras will also need to produce a year-best performance to pick up any points on Sunday, as they have won just once in three international matches this calendar year.

Their shortcomings in the final third were evident once again in their final prep fixture, as they were beaten 1-0 by Venezuela. But, the nation is capable of a big performance, which was evident when they landed a 2-1 home win over Canada in June of last year.

Mexico’s recent performances have been underwhelming, but they certainly boast talent across the field. We could see this being a testing opening match for Mexico, but we would be incredibly surprised if they aren’t able to pick up maximum points in Houston.
