The Blues have cruised through the competition so far this term, eliminating two Premier League sides in the four matches that they have played in the EFL Cup. However, the Blues needed their fair share of luck to reach the final four in the competition after securing victory in the previous round against Newcastle United from the penalty spot.
Middlesbrough famously won the EFL Cup back in 2004, and they would have been an astronomical price to replicate that feat at the start of the season. However, Boro haven’t really been tested in the competition so far this term, despite having played all of their four matches away from home in 2023-24.
Their task has been made slightly easier based on the fact that they haven’t come up against any sides from the Championship or Premier League this season. In the previous round, Boro easily overcame Port Vale, landing a 3-0 victory on the road to reach the final four.
