Originally slated to fight Tracy Cortez, Miranda Maverick now faces Dione Barbosa, a matchup many consider to be a more favorable one for the American. The Women’s Flyweight bout will serve as one of the preliminaries of UFC on ESPN 60 (also known as UFC Vegas 94), which is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at UFC Apex in Vegas.
Before Betting on Miranda Maverick vs. Dione Barbosa
Miranda Maverick has a professional MMA record of 13-5, with no losses inside the distance. Known for her prowess on the ground, she has secured seven of her victories via submission. Maverick holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a sport in which she won Silver last year in the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship
Her grappling and wrestling expertise is further highlighted by her MMA stats, where she averages 2.49 takedowns per fight. Her opponent at UFC on ESPN 60 too is a great wrestler/grappler – Dione Barbosa has a black belt both in BJJ and judo.
Known in the martial arts universe as “The Witch,” she’s got a respectable 7-2 record. While she’s got no wins by KO/TKO, she has demonstrated her versatility with three submission wins and four decision victories.
Barbosa transitioned to the UFC after a successful stint in the LFA and a solid performance on Dana White’s Contender Series last year. In her UFC debut, Barbosa defeated Ernesta Kareckaite by unanimous decision. Although Kareckaite outstruck her in significant strikes, Barbosa was the one to get a win. It’s because she managed to land two TDs and make one submission attempt, showing glimpses of her grappling capabilities.
However, her performance in that fight was not particularly dominant, suggesting that she might struggle against higher-caliber opponents such as Miranda Maverick.

Given Maverick’s recent run (e.g., wins over Priscilla Cachoeira and Andrea Lee), this fight should be an easy job for her. Barbosa’s lack of striking power and less impressive grappling credentials suggest that Maverick should be able to get a win.
The only question here is whether the American fighter will win before or after the final bell. We think either scenario is possible, but if we had to pick a method of victory, we’d go with submission.
