Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns are currently negotiating a new deal. It seems that the franchise from Ohio wants to keep one of the best defensive players in the league for a long time, and they are willing to pay him an enormous amount of money.

“Mega-Deal” in Option

Several sources are claiming that the Browns want to offer a massive extension to the 24-year old who currently has two more years on his rookie contract. Cleveland picked up his fifth-year option.

Nobody is talking about the exact numbers in this case, but we could get the picture by looking at Khalil Mack’s contract, which stands ar $23.5 million per season. The next player on the list is the Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence with $21 million and, in the end, Chiefs’ Frank Clark with $20.8 million.

“We do see Myles as a long-term member and pillar in our organization,” general manager Andrew Berry said recently.

According to many, Garrett is one of the best if not the best defender in the league and has the potential to become Hall of Fame member. He had 10 sacks last season and was in the combination for the Defensive Player of the Year, but eventually lost all the chances following the suspension he earned against the Steelers on November 14.

He was out for six games, because of hitting Pittsburgh’s QB Mason Rudolph with a helmet to his head. It was one of the most embarrassing moments in the NFL over the recent few years, with the Browns’ players and the management condemning their teammate. The DE was reinstated from his suspension on February 12, and back in business. In the meantime, the player issued an apology to Rudolph.

Garrett was the No.1 pick at the NFL 2017 draft, coming out of Texas A&M. During his college career, he became a two-time All-American and won the Bill Willis Award.

After coming to the NFL, Garrett earned a Pro Bowl invitation in 2018 and established himself as the leader of Cleveland’s defense. In three years as a Browns’ player, he played 37 games, posting 30.5 sacks and 74 tackles. He also forced six fumbles.

Big Deal for the Browns

Cleveland now has a chance to create a core that would be one of the most talented in the league in the next few years. But also, they have several of them with whom they are yet to have negotiations.

At the top of the list is Baker Mayfield, but he first needs to prove himself this season. If the stagnates again, it is quite possible to see the Browns moving away from the 2018 NFL Draft No.1 choice.

The next one is RB Nick Chubb who is one of the best in the league, and will definitely like to see some big cash, especially if Dalvin Cook receives some big contract this offseason.

And finally, there is cornerback Denzel Ward. Cleveland will try to book him first ahead of all others, because he has an enormous impact on the defense, and complements Garrett’s influence.
