One of the great American pastimes will once again prove to be an unmissable event in 2024, as Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will be staged in New York on July 4. This year’s event has already been making headlines, but which contestant could land success at Nathan’s Famous Corporation?

Before Betting On Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest has been a date for the diary for Americans since its inception in 1972. It has also proven to be an interesting betting event throughout its history, with the highest levels of popularity coming after the emergence of Takeru Kobayashi in the mid-2000s. However, excitement levels for the competition this year have been dampened slightly due to the recent announcement that reigning champion Joey Chestnut has been disqualified.

Chestnut was excluded from entering the competition this year after signing a lucrative deal with a plant-based meat company. The 40-year-old took to social media to share his surprise that he was learning of the decision via social media, with organizers claiming that the champion could return to the event when he isn’t signed up to a direct rival in the market.

Chestnut’s absence will open the door for a number of other competitors this year, as the American had won the competition on six occasions between 2007 and 2023. James Webb could be among the leading contenders, as he bids to become the first Australian to win the competition.

The 35-year-old has a proven record in competitive eating competitions, having managed to eat 51 Texas Sausages in ten minutes earlier this year. As well as that, he holds records for donuts and chicken wings. Geoffrey Esper will likely be the main American challenger this year, with the two-time Hooters wing-eating champion turning his attentions to hot dogs.
