The NFL free agency continues at full speed. The latest news is that Nelson Agholor found the new team.
Raiders Land Agholor
The Las Vegas Raiders and the wide receiver struck a deal that would keep the player in Nevada during the upcoming season. This news was revealed by Adam Schefter, who reported it on his Twitter account.
Agholor is one very significant addition to the Raiders’ roster, which will no doubt increase the diversity of Jon Gruden’s option in the offense. The Raiders are still searching for the ideal fits for their team, and it seems that Agholor just might be what they need.
A one-year deal is suitable for everyone. The Raiders will have one season to see whether he is the real deal for the future, while on the other side, the player has a chance to show his full potential and increase his value on the market.
With 26 years of age, he has just enough time to make one super-deal after this stint, and that is probably what he aims at. Agholor wants to enter the free agency before his prime years, which is precisely what he gets with this contract.
He was selected as the 20th pick in the 2015 draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Nigerian-born was a star at University South California, where he earned second-team All-American honors as a sophomore. The wide receiver had the best season in 2017 once he helped the Eagles to win the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. After playing in all 16 games, posting 768 receiving yards, 12.4 yards per carrying, and 8 TDs during the regular part of the campaign, he had 84 yards in the SB game, and was a constant threat for the Pats’ defense.
Agholor wasn’t that good in the previous season, and it was obvious that he and Carson Wentz aren’t functioning well. His stats dropped, and apart from that, he had a knee injury that separated him from the field for five games. For Agholor, this is the turning point of the career, and he will either become an elite slot receiver or continue being a mediocre one.
Raiders Working Hard During Free Agency
Besides this arrangement, the franchise from Las Vegas reached a deal with Rod Smith, the running back who came to the Raiders last year. Smith, 27, appeared in three games as a part of the special team. He would start the 2019 season with the Giants and, after that, joined the Tennessee Titans, but only for three contests.
Since coming to the NFL, Smith played one game for the Seattle Seahawks in 2015, then spent three and a half seasons in Dallas before having quite a journey during the previous campaign.
The Raiders made several big deals since the start of the free agency, Eli Apple, Jason Witten, Carl Nassib, Cory Littleton, Marcus Mariota, etc. It seems that this year will be crucial in Gruden’s rebuilt program and that he plans on making it a general test for all the players on the roster. Afterwards, the Super Bowl winner with the Buccaneers will start forming a team that will attack the Vince Lombardy trophy.
