It’s early, but the Brooklyn Nets have stumbled out of the gates to a 1-2 record to start the 2022/23 NBA season. There’s no better way to get back to .500 than beating one of the Eastern Conference favorites the Milwaukee Bucks (2-0) on their own court.

Brooklyn ran into a buzz saw their last time out, losing 134-124 to the Grizzlies as Ja Morant and Desmond Bane combined for 76 points in the Memphis back court. Monday’s tilt was the second poor defensive performance in three games for the Nets, who lost their season opener 130-108 at home to the Pelicans with C.J. McCollum, Zion Williamson, and Brandon Ingram all going for 21+ points.
Milwaukee should be able to exploit an up-and-down Brooklyn defense in Wednesday’s Nets vs Bucks matchup. The Bucks are on three days rest after their 125-105 win over Houston on Saturday. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a 44 point outing with 12 rebounds while Jrue Holiday added 19 points and 10 assists.
The Bucks are still trying to find some additional scoring while Khris Middleton is out until late November with a wrist injury and Pat Connaughton will miss more time with a calf strain. This might just be a ‘give the ball to Giannis and get out of the way’ type offense until Middleton returns to provide some balance.
Kevin Durant’s been off to a solid start for the Nets, with two 32+ point games already. His battle with Antetokounmpo will be must see TV on Wednesday night but the real X-factor here is Kyrie Irving who has back-to-back 30+ point games.
