Here is our New Mexico State vs Texas NCAAB prediction and preview article featuring a Longhorn squad looking to bounce back after a loss to UConn. New Mexico State is solid and has some momentum after beating their rivals, New Mexico, in overtime in their last contest. The Longhorns have more talent, but if they don’t come to play this game could be close.

New Mexico State Shooting for an Upset

The Aggies started the season 3-0 before losing six straight games up to their last contest. They won a thrilling overtime matchup against New Mexico, getting a huge game from Christian Cook, who dropped 27 points, hit six threes, and went 6-9 from deep.

To upset the Longhorns, though, they will need Cook to replicate that performance, plus get some help. If Zawdie Jackson can have a big game alongside Cook, that would be an ideal starting point. Jackson shoots 39.1% from three and has a season-high of 24 points. The Aggies hope Cook and Jackson can get hot from three at the same time and give the Longhorns a scare.

Longhorns Take out Frustration on Aggies

Texas had a tough loss last time out to two-time defending national champions UConn. The Longhorns have been good this season, beating some strong opponents, including Syracuse, Saint Joseph’s, and NC State. Tre Johnson has been an electric freshman for Texas, scoring 21.1 points per game and ranking in the top-15 in the nation.

Johnson doesn’t have to do it alone, though, as he has some solid support. Arthur Kaluma controls the paint, scoring 14.3 PPG, and leads the team in rebounding with 8.1 RPG. Texas has handled smaller schools this season, and after a frustrating loss, expect the Longhorns to handle New Mexico State.

New Mexico State vs Texas Prediction: Longhorns Run Away in 2nd Half

Texas will not lose two in a row, especially against a smaller school in this matchup. The Aggies have some momentum and may come out hot and keep it close for a half. Eventually, the Longhorns will outpace them in the 2nd half and win this one by 20+ at home.
