The “Subway Series” is set to resume on Tuesday night as the New York Mets host the New York Yankees. There is no love lost between these two rivals, although the rivalry has become a bit one-sided in recent seasons. The Yankees look like strong contenders to win the World Series this season, while the Mets are a team that is fading fast.

The Yankees come into this game having won 13 of their last 14 games, and just won the first two MLB games ever played in London. The Yankees have opened up a seven-game lead in the American League East Division. The New York Mets snapped a seven-game losing streak on Sunday night, but this has been a difficult season in Queens. The Mets are now in fourth place in the NL East with a record of just 38-47. The Mets are +129 over the Yankees in the series opener on Tuesday night.

Mets Just Have No Bullpen

The New York Mets lead the Major Leagues in blown saves this season, and their bullpen has been a disaster of late. Zack Wheeler will make the start on Tuesday night and will need to pitch deep into the game. Wheeler is just 6-5 with a 4.51 earned run average so far this season but does have the ability to pitch well. If the Mets have any hope of winning this game then they will need Wheeler to shut down an explosive Yankees lineup.

The Mets have a pair of All-Stars in Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso, and these two players provide almost all of the offense for the team. McNeil comes into this game with a batting average of .348 to go along with a .412 on-base percentage. Alonso leads the team with 28 home runs and 64 runs batted in, and will be in the Home Run Derby next week as well.

Yankees Digging the Long Ball

Speaking of home runs, the New York Yankees hit a ton of them. The Yankees have hit 138 long balls this season, and their roster is incredibly deep. Catcher Gary Sanchez leads the team with 23 home runs, but Gleyber Torres is right behind him with 19. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu is leading the team with a .345 batting average and 61 runs batted in.

Left-hander James Paxton will be on the mound for the Yankees, and they are waiting for him to pitch like he did a season ago. Paxton is just 5-3 with a 4.34 earned run average this season but has the capability of pitching much better. The Yankees bullpen is taxed from a long two games in London, and Paxton might have to pitch deep into this game.

Mets Stun “Exhausted” Yankees Team

The Yankees have to be feeling some effects from a long flight back home from London. The Yankees have been the best team in baseball over the last two weeks, but they are due for a loss. This has been another lost season for the Mets, but they can give their fans something to cheer about with a win over their rival. Bet the New York Mets +129 over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
