The action in the Premier League continues on Saturday, as the reigning champions look to close the gap on the top of the standings. Man City will be chasing a third straight win when they come up against a Newcastle side that have been stuttering for form in recent weeks.

Before Betting On Newcastle vs Man City

Man City have been a dominant return to action in the Premier League following the FIFA Club World Cup, as they have won each of their last two matches. That run of form still sees them sit five points off the top of the standings in the top-flight, but they have the added benefit of a game in hand over all sides around them in the current standings.

Pressure is building on Eddie Howe coming into this weekend, as Newcastle have suffered defeats in each of their last three in the Premier League. That has seen the Magpies drop to ninth in the overall standings, and they could potentially end the round in the bottom half of the standings. A victory will be required on Saturday to reignite their European hopes this term.

However, it could be hard to make a case for that outcome, given that Newcastle have won just once in their last 32 league matches against City. Their only success over that period was a 2-1 home win in January 2019. City have recorded 26 victories over the same period. In fact, City have won more games and scored more goals against Newcastle than against any other opponent.

Newcastle did record a 1-0 success over City in the EFL Cup earlier in the campaign, but they haven’t recorded two wins against their rivals in the same season since 1983-84. Meanwhile, the Magpies come into this match after losing six of their last nine, and they are looking to avoid suffering four straight defeats for the first time since January 2021.
