Another divisional encounter comes our way in the NFL Week 1. NFC South powerhouses Panthers and Saints meet down in the Big Easy, and as with any divisional matchup, it creates massive hype. Let’s dig in to see more about this event.
Before Betting on the Panthers vs. Saints NFL Week 1
Carolina did so much during the summer, making huge changes and landing Dave Canales as the new head coach. The team is better than last year, but overall, it’s still one of the worst in the league. The upside is that it’s a bit younger with all the rookies who came to town.
The Panthers opened the preseason with a 31-26 victory over the Bills on the road, but as soon as the starters began appearing in the latter events, their record dropped, losing to the Jets at home, 12-15 and the Patriots on the road, 17-3.
The Saints are still in trouble due to the salary cap, which prevents them from making that one free-agency push to add more quality to the roster to become at least a conference contender. Edge Chase Young landed, which will improve their already great defense, but they still have to do better to challenge the 49ers and others.
New Orleans lost the opening two games in the preseason, 27-30, to Titans at home, 16-10 in San Francisco, before beating the Cardinals in Arizona, 16-14.
Panthers vs. Saints Head to Head
New Orleans won both matchups last year. It was 20-17 in Charlotte in mid-September, while the second meeting saw them roll over the Panthers 28-6 in Big Easy.
Panthers vs. Saints NFL Week 1 Offshore Betting Odds & Pick
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Panthers | +175 | +4 | 40.5 |
Saints | -210 | -4 | 40.5 |
We have to go with the Panthers defending the spread. Why? The Panthers’ unexplored defense could make things pretty tough for Derek Carr, who, although he has enough experience, tends to play through momentum, and when it is negative, he isn’t capable of reversing it. That’s why we take some risk and bet on the Panthers to defend a 4-point spread. See more of our NFL Picks.
