San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers Preview

Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers meet in the rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game. The 49ers are in an awful position with two of their best players sidelined, Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle. When we add that they have numerous questionable players, and that Nick Bosa is already out, you can easily guess what problems haunt Kyle Shanahan. Meanwhile, the Packs had a very nasty surprise at home, losing to the divisional rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. It was something unexpected for every Packer fan (and player too) which is why they simply need to bounce back and win this event.

49ers’ Devastating Period

Even though Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t play well, and many wanted to see him benched, nobody wanted to see him injured. Right now, many are realizing how much he means to the team. Still, he might be replaced with Nick Mullins, who threw 238 yards for two TD passes in less than 14 minutes of the last quarter against Seattle.

The one player who doesn’t have a proper backup is George Kittle. The 27-year old TE is one of the best in the league, and his absence will most definitely hurt SF. After six games played, he had 474 yards, and two TDs, but Kittle’s overall contribution was so much more than that. He will be out for 8 weeks at last, while Garoppolo’s absence could be even longer.

We are still waiting to see who else won’t’ appear against the Packs because the 49ers constantly have trouble with players’ health.

Packers Fighting Adversity

So Pack bounced back following a loss in Tampa Bay, with an extraordinary win over the Texans in Houston. After that, GB was supposed to continue with excellent performances, but instead, Rodgers and the boys were trashed vs. Minnesota. To be honest, with 3 TDs and 291 passing yards, he can’t be blamed for this defeat. So can’t Devonte Adams, who caught three TD passes for 53 yards.

Yet, the finger of the majority was pointed towards the defense, who couldn’t stop the 200+yards performance of Dalvin Cook. For the first time this year, we saw the Packs pale when defending, having no solution for one man.

Matt LeFleur’s unit was not properly focused, with the penalties showing that the best. Vikes had seven for 36 yards, and the Packs 85 on nine.

Head to Head Matches

Both times last year, the 49ers blew away Green Bay. The first game concluded 37-8, while the second, which was the NFC Championship Game, ended 37-20.

Prediction

Right now, the spread on the Pakcers is -2.5, which is a superb situation. As we said, three superstars from the home side won’t appear, and they won’t have the same approach and philosophy of play without them.

Green Bay will have to win the upcoming game for multiple reasons, two of them being the most important. The first, pressure in the NFC North standings, and the second, massive motive to avenge defeats from the previous campaign.
