New Franchises
A notable difference in the NHL this season will be the decision of the Arizona Coyotes to relocate to Salt Lake City. Ryan Smith, owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, was behind the decision for the city to invest in an NHL outfit, and a new franchise was formally announced in mid-April. The new franchise is named Utah Hockey Club, and they will play their home matches at Delta Center.
Schedule
The regular season in the NHL this season will run from October 4, 2024 until April 17, 2025. The Sabres and Devils will play in the first of two matches as part of the Global Series, with the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers also being involved in the series, as they will collide at Nokia Arena in Finland on November 1 and 2.
Outdoor games have been a prominent part of the NHL schedule throughout recent history, and the Winter Classic in 2025 will be played on New Year’s Eve at Wrigley Field in Chicago when the Blackhawks collide with the St. Louis Blues. The Stadium Series will be staged on March 1, 2025, as the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings clash at Ohio Stadium.
The 2024-25 NHL playoffs will kick off at the end of April, before the Stanley Cup series is set to reach its conclusion in June.
How Many Games In NHL Season?
This season, the NHL will play 82 games in its regular season. Teams that finish in the required playoff spots will then play a best-of-seven series in the Conference finals before the champions from the East and West collide in the Stanley Cup finals in 2025.
