National League East rivals, Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies, will wrap up their three game series on Sunday night. The Washington Nationals will be trying to avoid a three game sweep, after falling in the first two games of the weekend series. Washington must find a way to slow down the red hot Philadelphia Phillies offense if they want to win the series finale.

By winning the first two games of the series, the Phillies have now surpassed the Washington Nationals in the NL East standings. Both teams are still trying to track down the Atlanta Braves, who continue to surprise MLB and lead the division.  The Philadelphia Phillies are -105 over the Washington Nationals on Sunday Night Baseball.

Juan Soto Making A Splash in D.C.

The Washington Nationals are receiving terrific play from recently called up, Juan Soto. Soto was the Nationals’ top prospect heading into this season, and has made immediate contributions at the Major League level. The young phenom has already hit 6 home runs in his first 30 games with the team. Washington has struggled to score runs this season, but Soto is helping to provide some offense.

The offense hasn’t been great for Washington this season, but the Nationals continue to get great starting pitching. Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg continue to lead the rotation, which is once again one of the best in baseball. Young Jefry Rodriguez will make the start on Sunday night, and will try to help the Nationals avoid the sweep.

Phillies Trying to Keep Pace in East

It has been a few years since the Phillies were playoff contenders, but Philadelphia appears to be ready to contend this season. The Phillies are now just 1.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, and are right in the thick of the Wild Card race as well. The sports landscape in Philadelphia has been great in 2018, and the Phillies look to provide their fans with more excitement as the year progresses.

Odubel Herrera has been great for the Phillies this season, and appears to be heading to his first All-Star game later next month. Herrera had hit a home run in five straight games for the Phillies, but failed to connect on Saturday. Philadelphia doesn’t have a true veteran star on offense, but they young kids continue to lead the way for them.

Phillies Win, Sweep Nationals

The Philadelphia Phillies have gone into our Nation’s capital and dominated the Nationals through the first two games of the series. Philadelphia will hand the ball to Nick Pivetta on Sunday night, and he will look to improve upon his up and down 2018 season. If Pivetta can give the Phillies a quality start, the red hot offense might be able to power them to victory.

The Nationals continue to struggle to find any consistency, especially when it comes to offense in 2018. Bryce Harper has been great for Washington once again, but the Nationals don’t have a regular starter hitting over .290 on the season. Philadelphia appears to be the better team at the moment, and look for the Phillies to complete the three game sweep on Sunday.  Take the Philadelphia Phillies -105 over the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
