Brazil Looking For Repeat Victory
It has been yet another exciting performance by the Brazilians in the summer Olympics. Brazil came into the tournament as the reigning Olympic champions after beating Germany in a penalty shootout in Rio five years ago. This will also be their third consecutive appearance in the gold medal match. However, they were beaten in their first final appearance in that sequence by Mexico. Brazil have also won medals in the last three Olympic Games. After safely getting through the group stage, Brazil have got stronger as the tournament has progressed.
They eased past Egypt in the quarterfinals, as they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory. It was a much nervier affair in the semi-finals of the competition, as there was a repeat of the gold medal match from London against Mexico. However, Brazil were able to get a layer of revenge, as they won via the penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw. Brazil also boasts the top scorer in the competition this summer, as Richarlison has scored five times so far.
Spain Outsiders In Final
Despite being the pre-tournament favourites to win the gold medal, Spain come into the final as the outsiders. The Spanish will be looking for their first gold medal in the football since 1992, and were beaten on their last appearance in the final by Cameroon at the Sydney Games in 2000. Spain have been strong throughout the tournament, and are still yet to lose a game. They were held in their opening group stage match, but they still managed to get through with ease.
Spain stepped it up a gear in the quarterfinals of the competition, as they strolled past the Ivory Coast with a 5-2 success. Like Brazil, it was a much tighter game in the semi-finals, as Spain came up against Japan. They needed to be patient in that game, but Marco Asensio eventually broke the deadlock with five minutes of the 90 remaining.

Despite being two of the biggest footballing nations, Spain and Brazil have met on just nine occasions in the past. This will also be just the second time that the two sides have met since 2000. The last meeting was in the Confederations Cup in 2013, as Brazil claims a dominant 3-0 win.

This is a final that could easily go either way. A case could be made for both Brazil and Spain. However, we will stick with the latter, who have the greater experience and have performed to a higher standard in the knockout stages.
