An exciting summer of sporting action in France will get underway at the end of July, as Paris gears up to host the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games. Some of the most talented athletes on the planet will be in action, but which nations could eclipse their record tally for medals won at the event?
Australia Olympic Medal Total
Despite boasting some of the all-time most successful Olympians, Australia have never topped the medal standings at the Olympic Games. In fact, they have only finished in the top three places on one previous occasion.
Once again, the vast majority of Australian medals will be won in the pool, but they have only eclipsed 47 medals in one of the last four editions of the Olympics.
China Olympic Medal Total
China has been one of the most successful nations in recent editions of the Olympics, topping the medal standings in their home event in 2008. They have also finished second in the overall standings in three of the last five editions.
They look good value to win over 87.5 medals, having achieved that feat in all but one of the last four Olympics.
France Olympic Medal Total
France haven’t finished in the top three of the Olympic medal standings since the London Games in 1948. However, the team will be under increased pressure this year as the host nation.
France have won a total of 889 medals during their Olympic history, and while they could achieve a record-haul this year, it could be worth siding with them landing under 52.5 medals this summer.
Great Britain Olympic Medal Total
Great Britain have achieved fine recent success at the Olympics, finishing second in the Brazil Games back in 2016. Team GB endured a more challenging time of things in Tokyo in 2020 after winning just 64 medals, which was their lowest since the 2008 Games.
However, even a repeat showing would see them eclipse the tally of 62.5.
USA Olympic Medal Total
The USA are the most successful nation in Olympic history, having topped the medal standings on 18 previous occasions. They have also finished top of the standings in each of the last three editions.
However, a haul of more than 121.5 medals would represent the team’s best Olympic showing since 1984. Therefore, it could be worth siding with the U.S. team winning less than 121.5 medals.
