Paris will be home to the 2024 Olympics this summer, and one of the most exciting events on the cycling calendar will come in the form of the Women’s Road Race. It promises to be a wide-open contest, but which athlete will get their hands on the gold medal?

Before Betting On Olympics Women’s Cycling Road Race

One of the most grueling events at the Summer Olympics this year will be the Road Race in cycling. The women’s event will cover a total distance of 158 km across the streets in France, with both the male and female races starting at the Trocadero. It will be an exciting race to watch, with riders passing by some of the iconic landmarks in the city, including the Eiffel Tower and Louvre.

The women’s Road Race has been staged on the Olympic schedule since the 1984 Games, which was the first-ever female cycling event to be added before track events were included for the following Games. Connie Carpenter was the first gold winner on the streets in Los Angeles.

However, Dutch riders have dominated the event in recent editions, winning gold in two of the last three. However, Anna Kiesenhofer comes into the event this year as the reigning champion after winning the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics. Lotte Kopecky could be the standout pick for many this year after finishing fourth in the individual road race in 2020.

The Belgian star has previous experience in France after finishing second in the Tour de France Femmes in 2023, while she also has recent winning experience under her belt after landing the Road Race at the World Championships last summer. Dutch hopes will be resting on Demi Vollering this year, but she boasts very solid form claims after winning the Tour de France Femmes last year, and starting this season with success in the La Vuelta Femenina.
