The Discus Throw is one of four throwing events to be staged at the Olympics this summer, with this competition having been staged at the multi-sport event since 1896. However, the women’s competition wasn’t included on the Olympic program until 1928. You can find the latest odds and winner picks for both men’s and women’s events below.

The Women’s Discus Throw has been included on the Olympic schedule since 1928, becoming one of five events in the inaugural women’s schedule. The current record at the multi-sport event was set back in 1988 by Martina Hellman, as she covered a distance of 72.30 meters. Sandra Perkovic was a dominant champion in the event between 2012 and 2016, winning back-to-back gold medals.
However, Valarien Allman has the opportunity to join the greats of the sport this year, as the American looks to successfully defend the honor that she won in Tokyo. The 29-year-old will have slight questions to answer after finishing second at the World Championships in 2023, but she was the Diamond League Champion in the event last year.
Yaime Perez could be the leading contender for the top prize after finishing third in the event in Japan. She also comes into the event this year after recording her personal best throw of 73.09m in 2024. But, Allman looks hard to oppose.

A new men’s Olympic champion looks set to be crowned this year, with the top contenders in the betting all making their Olympic debuts. The one exception to that rule is Daniel Stahl, who comes to France as the defending champion. The Swedish star is a two-time world champion, most recently winning the top prize in 2023.
However, his season was ultimately overshadowed after finishing with the silver medal at the European Games in 2023. Lithuania could have a very serious contender to win a gold medal at the Olympics in the event this year, as Mykolas Alekna has excellent pedigree in the discus.
The 21-year-old was the World and European U20 champion in 2021, and he will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his father by winning an Olympic gold. He was the European champion in the event in 2022, and was the bronze medallist earlier this year. But, the preference is for the Lithuanian star to win the gold.
