One of the most prestigious field events to be staged at the Olympics this summer is the Hammer Throw. The Men’s event was staged at the Olympics for the first time in 1900, before the women’s contest was added much later on in 2000. You can find the latest odds and winner picks for the men’s and women’s events here.

The Women’s Hammer Throw was added to the Olympic schedule for the first time in 2000, taking place exactly 100 years after the men’s event was competed for the first time. The women’s Olympic record is currently held by Anita Wlodarczyk, who recorded a distance of 82.29m when winning the gold medal in 2016.

Despite that, the Polish star, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest women’s hammer throwers of all-time is among the outsiders for the event this year. She is a three-time Olympic champion, and has won the gold at the World Championships on four occasions. She looked back to her best earlier this season when winning silver at the European Championships.

DeAnna Price could have solid claims of winning the gold medal for Team USA this year. She was the winner of the event at the World Championships in 2019, and was third in the same event last year. Her form has looked strong this year, and it could be worth chancing the 31-year-old to win a first Olympic gold this summer.

The Men’s Hammer Throw at the Olympics is widely considered to be the most prestigious prize on the schedule for stars in the event. It has been staged at every edition of the Games since 1900, with the current record at the multi-sport competition being set by Sergey Litvinov in 1988.

Polish star Wojciech Nowicki will once again rank among the leading contenders in the event, as he chases a second Olympic gold, and a third medal at the event overall. Nowicki continued his excellent pedigree on the global stage by winning the silver medal at the World Championships last summer, while he was also the winner of the gold medal at the European Championships earlier this year.

However, Ethan Katzberg looks to be the emerging star in the event, with the 22-year-old Canadian chasing a first Olympic title to add to his World Championship success that was recorded in Budapest last year. He was also the silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. This looks to be his time to arrive on the global stage.
