The competitive action in the pool at the Olympics this summer continues in the forms of the men’s and women’s 200m Freestyle events. This competition made its Olympic debut in 1900, before officially making its return to the competition in 1968. You can find the latest odds and picks for the events in Paris here.

The men’s 200m freestyle was included in the 1900 and 1904 Games, before being scrapped. However, it made its awaited return to the multi-sport competition in 1968, and it has produced some of the most memorable winners in recent history.

It is an event that the USA haven’t experienced success in since Michael Phelps won gold in 2008, while an Australian gold medal was last won in the 200m freestyle in 2004. There could be a historic moment in the pool for Romania this summer, as David Popovici looks a solid chance to win the gold medal.

The 19-year-old comes to Paris as the reigning world champion over the 100m and 200m freestyle, and he is just one of three swimmers in history to have finished over the 200m distance in under 1:43. This could be the teenagers time to shine in the pool.

The Women’s 200m Freestyle event has been an ever-present on the Olympic schedule since its debut in Mexico City in 1968. Unlike the men’s event, the last three golds have been won by either Australian or American stars in the pool, and the betting expects history to be made this summer.

Ariarne Titmus could become the first multiple-time gold medal winner in the competition after winning the top prize in Tokyo in 2021. The 23-year-old has been dominant in this event throughout her career, and she currently holds the world record times over the 200m and 400m freestyle events. However, she was only second in the World Championships in this event last year.

Siobhan Haughey could have an outside chance of a medal this summer after winning silver in Tokyo. However, the narrow preference goes to Mollie O’Callaghan. The Australian was dominant at the World Championships last summer, winning five gold medals, which included the top prize in this event.
