The Men’s 400m Freestyle will be the first gold medal handed out in the pool at the Olympics this summer, with the final taking place on July 27. It should be a very competitive competition for the top prize in the pool, with the top four in the betting all holding solid claims ahead of the start of the event in Paris.

There was one of the biggest shocks in Olympic history in this event in 2021, with Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Hafnaoui upsetting the odds to become the lowest-seeded swimmer to win a gold in the pool since 2004. In doing so, he come just the second Tunisian swimmer in history to win an Olympic gold in the pool.

Lukas Martens didn’t even make the final in 2021 in Tokyo, but he is widely tipped up to avenge that shock outcome in Paris this year. The German swimmer comes into the competition this year in solid form after winning silver at the 2022 World Championships, and bronze medals in the 2023 and 2024 events.

However, there could be more interesting contenders in the betting. Woo Min Kim could rank at the very top of those. The South Korean upset the odds at the World Championships earlier this season after winning the gold medal, beating Elijah Winnington and Martens.

That outcome was no flash in the pan, as he has already won golds at the Asian Games over the 400m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyle distances.
