The 800m Freestyle made an exciting return to the Olympic Games for the first time since 1904, when the multi-sport event was previously held in Tokyo. It was one of the most exciting finishes to a swimming event in the men’s competition, and you can find the latest odds and picks for this year’s events here.

There was a memorable return to the Olympics for the 800m Freestyle event in Japan, as it produced one of the most exciting finishes to a competition in the pool. However, there was to be American success, as Robert Finke came back from fourth on the final turn to swim a 26.39 split to overtake the entire field.

The success marked a second Olympic title for Finke, with his other prize coming in the 1500m Freestyle. His form remains strong coming into this year’s Olympics, having won the World Championship gold in 2022. However, he could only finish third in the 2023 World Championships.

Samuel Short was second in the event last year, clocking the best time in the heats, before eventually being beaten in the final. But, the preference is for Irish athlete Daniel Wiffen, who arrives at the Olympics in excellent form after winning gold medals in the 800m and 1500m freestyles at the World Championships in Doha.

More history beckons at the Olympics this summer for Katie Ledecky, as the American star looks to continue her dominance in the Women’s 800m Freestyle. Ledecky has won the last three golds in the event, becoming the youngest winner in 2012 and the oldest winner of the gold medal aged just 24 in 2020.

Ledecky’s record on the global stage speaks for itself, as she has won 36 gold medals in various swimming events throughout her career. In fact, she has only won two silvers during her Olympic career. The dominance that she has achieved in the event continued at the World Championships last summer after winning golds in the 800m and 1500m Freestyles.

Ariarne Titmus appears to be her only major concern based on the odds available for the event. The Australian swimmer was second in the event in 2020, but she was able to win golds in the 200m and 400m Freestyles. But, she once again finished behind her American rival in the event at the World Championships, meaning that the preference is for the current favorite in the betting.
